Special certified doors for Theater de Bussel

Renovation work

Gebouw De Bussel has been a household name in Oosterhout since 1984. In 2014, Van Wijnen began extension and renovation work to the building in the centre. In September 2015, the new theatre season was launched in a completely renewed theatre.

De Bussel was largely demolished for the renovation. What remained was the ground floor and the shell of the large hall. Following asbestos remediation the renovation and new construction began on a large hall (500 seats), small hall (200 seats), along with the corresponding backstage areas and facility rooms, a spacious foyer on two floors and the Theek5 library.

3TO architects and DP6 architectuurstudio worked in a cooperation partnership to produce the design for De Bussel. “The building is a new landmark in Oosterhout centre. The Theater de Bussel/Theek5 facade in the public space refers to a theatre curtain, or living room curtain. The alternating openings in the front create an interesting facade.” (Source: www.3to.nl)

Strict noise requirements

De Bussel is located in a residential area and the theatre and library are combined in one building. Therefore strict noise requirements  of 65 dB apply, for example, from the theatre room to the library. The Pop spectrum is used to determine the soundproof values of the doors. Certain types of Alara-Lukagro’s soundproof doors have extra high sound insulation values in the Ra Pop spectrum and were also used at these locations in the theatre.

Certified doors

Specific requirements applied to a number of doors in De Bussel: a combination of high soundproof levels, fire resistance and an emergency exit function. The combinations had to be officially tested and certified. Alara-Lukagro has all the certificates for these door combinations in order and was able to comply with the architects’ requirements. Consequently the contract to produce and install these special certified doors with high soundproof levels was awarded to Alara-Lukagro.

Soundproof and fire resistant result

DGMR inspected the De Bussel project’s implementation, especially in terms of noise and safety. “The sound experience in the halls must be optimal, but no sound must be audible between the halls and in the environment. DGMR also had to demonstrate that the fittings offered a good quality in terms of fire safety, complied with the technical programme of requirements and were as inconspicuous as possible.”

Colour prevents light reflection

To prevent light reflection the architect opted to apply a special coating to the doors. Therefore Alara-Lukagro applied the special Interpon Noir sablé coating to the doors in its very own coating facilities.
