Noise measures for monopile gripper

Alara-Lukagro, in cooperation with Van Oord, designed the noise measures inside the new monopile gripper, which was under construction at the time, dedicated for installation on board of Van Oord’s ship the Svanen.

At that time the Svanen was equipped with a new adjustable ring-shaped gripper, which has been made suitable for monopiles up to 90 meters long and 11 meters in diameter. This monopile gripper is used to install piles on the seabed. These monopiles form the foundation for various wind turbines.

Noise reduction different rooms

For the HPU-room, E-cabinet room and the inner and outer ring of this gripper, Alara-Lukagro was asked to carry out noise reduction measures. In cooperation with the engineering company TWD, these different measures were designed and integrated into the design of the new gripper.

For this several walls of the above mentioned areas are constructed out of sound reducing sandwich panels. These panels have been placed inside the steel construction of the gripper which results in a as good as seamless end result. These walls were mounted in the monopile gripper by a certified Alara-Lukagro installation team.

Ventilation sets

To optimize air management in the HPU-room and the E-cabinet room, Alara-Lukagro also designed and installed ventilation sets for these two rooms. For the HPU room, a ventilation set is designed to dissipate the radiated heat from the installed machines, so that the room temperature doesn’t get too high. For the E-cabinet area, a ventilation set has been designed based on natural ventilation. This is used to continuously refresh the air in the room, so that the air quality does not deteriorate. Both ventilation facilities are (partly) integrated into the newly installed walls.

Ceiling HPU room

As a final noise reduction measure for this monopile gripper, Alara-Lukagro has clad the ceiling of the HPU room with noise reducing wool. This measure was taken to reduce the sound emission to the surroundings and within the room. In order to enclose this wool, perforated steel sheets have been mounted using various set steel profiles. The Alara-Lukagro mechanics installed this fully tailor-made on-site.
