Acoustic enclosure for compressors Bacton Gas Terminal

Three compressors are replaced in the Bacton Gas Terminal in England as part of a rejuvenating project. Alara-Lukagro supplied the enclosures, which we executed sound insulating, as always.

Bacton Gas Terminal

The Bacton Gas Terminal is located on the coast of the North Sea, at Norfolk, England. This terminal of Shell gathers gas from fields in the North Sea, 474 kilometres further. The gas is transported to the mainland through a pipeline, where it enters the Bacton Terminal, among other terminals. The terminal already opened in 1968. To guarantee the value of the terminal until 2030, Shell started an extensive rejuvenating project. Part of this project is the replacement of three compressors by new electrical driven propane compressors.

Large enclosures

Engineering bureau Jacobs approached us to come forward with a proposal for the development of the acoustic enclosure of these compressors. After an extensive evaluation phase of Shell and Jacobs, we received the order. This containedĀ engineering, producing and assembling three large compressor enclosures – each enclosure is more than 13 meter long and 7 meter high and wide. Our engineers took care of the strength calculation, cfd-ventilation calculations and the drawings in 3D.

What makes the enclosures special, is the presence of a big roof shutter to be able to take the compressor components out of the enclosure, for for example maintenance.

Besides that internal ventilation is designed, for the extraction of leaking propane.

PreperationsĀ are also made for gas detection sensors.
